Browse by active constituent
Every herbicide chemistry on the register carried by several products from different holders — and which products those are.
Browse the actives →Name the agricultural chemical you use and the job you use it for. BecSpec shows every other product on the APVMA register approved for that same job, sorted by how close the chemistry actually is — identical actives and formulation first. An alternative product, not an alternative supplier: the register names who holds the registration, never who stocks it.

Search by product name, registration holder or active constituent. Currently registered agricultural herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, miticides, molluscicides, nematicides, plant and growth regulators, algicides, vertebrate poisons and mixed-function products.

Only the uses on this product's own registration are listed. Pick the host and pest you need covered — an alternative is only an alternative if it is registered for the same job.
Every herbicide chemistry on the register carried by several products from different holders — and which products those are.
Browse the actives →The three tiers, the canonical active-constituent rules, and the salts and esters BecSpec deliberately refuses to merge.
Read the method →The APVMA PubCRIS export, its licence, which files are used, and which are deliberately ignored.
See the source →Rates, withholding periods, resistance groups and stockists are not in this dataset. What that means for you.
Read the limits →Every result here is a starting point for a label check, never a replacement for one. The APVMA holds the approved labels.
Open PubCRIS →Not automatically. Two products can carry the same active constituent at the same strength in the same formulation type and still differ in the co-formulants and surfactants the register does not publish, and their labels can carry different rates, withholding periods and crop safety directions. What the register does establish is whether the declared active chemistry is identical and whether both are approved for the same host and pest. BecSpec reports that and nothing further.
Registration is granted use by use. Two products can be identical chemistry and both approved for wheat and annual ryegrass while one is registered across 278 host and pest combinations and the other across 26. Replacing the product for one job, that does not matter. Replacing it across the farm, it matters a great deal — so the share of the whole label each alternative also covers is shown on every Tier 1 and Tier 2 result.
No. PubCRIS records the company holding the registration, which is not necessarily the manufacturer and is never the reseller. There is no stockist, availability or price information in this dataset, and BecSpec does not invent one. An alternative found here is a product you can ask your reseller for by name.
Because they are. Glyphosate isopropylamine salt, potassium salt and mono-ammonium salt are registered separately, formulated differently and applied at different rates. Collapsing them onto “glyphosate” would make the tool look cleverer and quietly assert an equivalence nobody has established. Same for the 2,4-D and MCPA esters.
