Privacy policy
BecSpec is a specification search tool. It does not need to know who you are, and it does not ask. This page sets out the little it does collect and why.
Last updated 9 August 2026.
The short version
- No account, no login, no sign-up.
- Searches are processed in your browser. Specifications you type are not sent to a BecSpec server, because there isn't one.
- We use Google Analytics to understand whether the tools get used. That sets cookies and involves Google.
- We do not sell data, and there is no advertising on this site.
Who we are
BecSpec is an Australian project operated by its owner. For any privacy question, correction or complaint, contact us at privacy@becspec.com.au.
What we collect
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure how the site is used. This collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and interactions within a tool — for example that a search was run, that a result's reasoning was opened, or that a supplier link was clicked.
Alongside the page view, we record which specification fields were used and the values entered — for example that someone searched 7.5 kW, 4 pole, 415 V. This is how we learn which tools are worth building. It is equipment data, not personal data, and it is not linked to an identity because we do not hold one.
Google Analytics sets cookies and may transfer information overseas, including to the United States. Google's handling of this data is governed by its own privacy policy. You can opt out across all sites using Google's opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser. The tools on this site work normally either way.
Hosting
The site is served as static files by GitHub Pages, behind Cloudflare. Both providers process request data such as IP address and user agent as a normal part of delivering and protecting the site. We do not operate an application server and keep no server-side logs of our own.
What we do not collect
- Names, addresses, phone numbers or email addresses — unless you choose to email us.
- Payment details. There is nothing to buy here.
- Any account or profile, because there are no accounts.
Cookies
The only cookies set are Google Analytics cookies, used to distinguish visits and sessions. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are used. Blocking cookies does not affect the finders — the matching runs entirely in your browser.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with third parties for marketing. The only parties that necessarily process data are the service providers named above: Google, GitHub and Cloudflare.
If BecSpec later introduces supplier referrals or enquiry forms, what is shared and with whom will be stated clearly at the point you use them, and this policy will be updated before any such feature goes live.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles you may request access to any personal information we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or complain about how it has been handled. Write to privacy@becspec.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable period.
In practice we hold almost nothing about individuals, so the usual honest answer to an access request is that there is nothing on file beyond aggregate analytics.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — particularly if we add supplier referrals, enquiry capture or any commercial relationship — the date at the top will be updated and the change described here.
