Toyota CarPlay retrofit: which Australian cars had the official upgrade?
Toyota Australia launched an official dealer retrofit for a defined group of vehicles sold before CarPlay and Android Auto became factory standard. The dates matter more than the badge alone.
Cars covered by the original program
The BecSpec checker currently holds exact Australian sale-date windows for RAV4, Camry, Corolla hatch, HiAce and Prius. Vehicles after the relevant changeover dates moved to factory-fitted smartphone integration instead.
What should you do now?
Give a Toyota dealer the VIN and ask them to check whether the original multimedia retrofit remains available for your exact vehicle. Ask for the current fitted price before booking.
What about the $199 upgrade?
At launch in 2019 Toyota advertised the RAV4 and HiAce upgrade free of charge, while Camry, Corolla hatch and Prius were listed at $199. That is historical program information, not a current quote.
Why the sale date matters
A model year can straddle the retrofit/factory-fit changeover. That is why the checker may ask when the vehicle was first sold or delivered rather than simply guessing from the year on the registration.
Bottom line
If your Toyota falls inside one of the original retrofit windows, there is a documented OEM path worth asking the dealer about. If it falls after the changeover, the car may already have wired CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory.
