Enphase IQ Battery 5P not discharging when you expect?
Enphase's current Australian system uses operating profiles rather than a simple fixed discharge timer. The first question is therefore which profile is active?
1. Check the active profile
Enphase documents Self-Consumption, Savings and Full Backup modes for the current IQ Battery 5P system. Savings is designed to discharge when tariffs are high; Full Backup reserves the battery for outages.
2. Check the tariff schedule
Savings behaviour depends on the configured utility rate schedule. If peak/off-peak times are wrong, the battery can appear to ignore the period you care about while actually following the stored tariff data.
3. Check reserve capacity
Backup-enabled systems can hold a user-selected reserve. Normal discharge should not be expected to consume energy that has deliberately been reserved for an outage.
4. Check whether automation changed the objective
Current Australian Enphase releases include Savings-profile optimisations and IQ Energy Management. Treat the system as profile-driven automation rather than assuming every action comes from a manual clock rule.
5. Escalate metering/control faults separately
If the app profile and tariff data are correct but the system responds to the wrong household flow, move to the system-controls checks rather than changing installer metering or grid settings.
