How the retrofit evidence works

The central rule is simple: a plausible system architecture is not the same thing as manufacturer-confirmed compatibility.

Pathway states

Native DC supported means the OEM explicitly supports a battery relationship. Native DC conditional means firmware, BMS, stack, part-number or other conditions apply. OEM AC storage path means the manufacturer documents a separate AC-coupled storage architecture. Generic AC retrofit path uses Australian Government architecture guidance but makes no battery-model certification claim. Replacement or upgrade is used only where the requested function cannot be supported by the evidenced existing architecture. Unknown means the evidence stops.

Identity first

Brand names are not enough. Hardware generation, exact model, phase, firmware and supporting controller equipment can change the result. A family-level assertion stays family-level unless the source establishes the exact model.

Backup is always separate

A battery can be compatible for storage while backup needs another controller, transfer device, dedicated circuits or a different product generation. BecSpec never converts “battery supported” into “whole-home backup supported”.
