Sungrow · SG8K-D Premium
Can I add a battery to a Sungrow SG8K-D?
The evidenced route is an AC-coupled battery retrofit or inverter replacement, not a native battery connection to this PV inverter.
Why this model matters
Sungrow says more than 100,000 SG8K-D units were installed in Australia. That makes it a major retrofit population rather than an obscure legacy model.
Keep or replace?
Keeping the SG8K-D can preserve a working solar system while a separate battery inverter handles storage. Replacement may make sense where a desired integrated hybrid/backup architecture requires it, but BecSpec does not call replacement mandatory from model identity alone.
Backup
Backup capability belongs to the added storage system and switchboard design, not the SG8K-D itself.
