Which home batteries give you the most control?

This is not a “best battery” list. BecSpec scores only programmability, and the score is attached to a documented product family / software generation rather than to a brand as a whole.

FoxESS — current FoxCloud 2.0-supported hybrid families

Manual control: 10/10 · Smart automation: 7/10 in Australia

FoxCloud 2.0 documents Mode Scheduler, Forced Charge, Forced Discharge, minimum SOC and peak-shaving controls. FoxESS's 2026 manual says AI Mode is currently Netherlands-only, so BecSpec does not credit that AI function to Australia.

Generation note: do not assume older H1/AC1 stock exposes the same controls as H1(G2)/AC1(G2), H3 Smart or other current families.

Before buying: identify the exact generation

Get the exact inverter model

Do not accept only the brand name. Ask for the inverter model/part number on the quote.

Ask which app controls remain yours

Have the installer show the actual homeowner account and charge/discharge controls that remain available after commissioning.

Separate user from installer settings

A parameter in an installer manual does not prove the homeowner can change it.
